This position is for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Travel Squad inside the High Income BU
A few of the company’s most important priorities right now are winning the high income segment and building differentiated travel experiences for our customers
Travel owns products like Nu Viagens, eSIM, International Account and Travel Tab, working closely with different international external partners to deliver end-to-end journeys our customers can trust
We are still in the early days of scaling these products, with a lot to build and learn in both acquisition (how customers discover and hire Travel products) and engagement (how we keep experiences reliable, fast and delightful across trips, currencies and channels)
This is a cross-squad Staff role: you will own the target architecture for the Travel ecosystem, lead a challenging architecture evolution plan (e.g., from WebView to API-based native experiences), and act as an AI-first engineering leader for the squad
Owning the target architecture for the Travel ecosystem, including Multi-Currency Account (MCA), Nu Viagens and eSIM, and how these products work together and integrate with key dependencies inside and outside Nu — creating a robust, flexible Travel architecture, supporting millions of customers
Envisioning and leading a multi-year architecture evolution plan, planning and sequencing migrations between legacy and new partner platforms with different integration patterns (e.g., WebView → API), unlocking capabilities such as high-quality usability, fast iteration, cross-sell with other products, customer-facing AI experiences, and direct integration with top Travel players
Acting as a strong technical representative in cross-squad and cross-company forums, aligning on shared infrastructure, API definitions, long-term platform commitments and roadmap sequencing
Providing AI-first engineering leadership for Travel: evolving the squad’s canonical AI context, practices and tooling across chapters, and setting a high bar for how AI is used in architecture, development and operations
Leading co-creation of solutions with external partners including joint API design, integration patterns and operational models, while dealing with constraints such as partial data visibility, partner SLAs and regulatory issues
Navigating ambiguity and operational edge cases (cancellations, schedule changes, FX and cross-border issues, ops and regulatory constraints), helping the team structure work to systematically handle complexity and run experiments (e.g., improving UEM) in parallel
Influencing the whole value stream, not just downstream: collaborating with Product, Ops, Risk/Fraud, and partners to align business urgency, platform capacity, controls (fraud/AML) and revenue retention, and drive decisions to closure
Multiplying through the team, not only via personal delivery but also by mentoring ICs, fostering a strong engineering culture, writing RFCs and design docs, and turning strategic direction into artifacts teams can execute against independently
